Dawn of Chromatica, was it even good?
Lady Gaga has always been known for releasing remixes of her studio albums, and the Dawn of Chromatica isn’t the first. Remix albums were the trend back in the early 2010s, and Gaga is still reviving that till now.
On September 3rd, 2021, the remix album Dawn Of Chromatica was released
LSDXOXO, COUCOU CHLOE, ARCA, Pablo Vittar, Rina Sawayama, Charli XcX, AG Cook, Ashiniko, Shygirl, DOSS, Dorian Electra, Bree Runway were all featured on the album, each of them gave their own spin and touch the Lady Gaga staple.
Based on hyper pop production, this album tends to bring to the already existent songs, a little bit of excitement and thrill. Each song is complemented by amazing collaborative guests that put their best effort into making a new song, with a new experience, which is why this album is so unique.
These artists can all be linked to one genre of music, mainly hyper pop, they represent the new generation, the future, most of them have already worked with SOPHIE or have been familiar with her work, since she is the pillar of this genre. I would have personally loved to see SOPHIE’s take on the album, her indirect impact is very prominent and can be heard on every track, but if she was still alive she would have taken this album’s production to great places, places no one has ever dared to reach.
As much as Chromatica was revolutionary, the remix album took it a step further. Lady Gaga helped these artists get more recognition on the mainstream scene since she is the epitome of pop music and culture.
The album was unfortunately not critically acclaimed and didn’t chart well, which only shows how much work there is left to introduce the new pop.
Every remix track on the album appealed to a type of listener and was exceptionally delightful to hyper pop fans such as me.
As someone who is very familiar with all the artists mentioned and this genre, this album ranks very high on my list.
