Simon Porte Jacquemus is a French Self-taught fashion designer born on January 16th, 1990 in Salon de Provence, France. A finalist for the LMVH’s Prize for Young Designers, and the founder of Jacquemus.

Simon Porte Jacquemus

Founder and designer of his very own brand, Jacquemus; His early days weren’t as glamorous. Simon was seven years old when he first cut a skirt for his mother out of a linen curtain. He moved out of his parents’ house at eighteen for Paris to pursue his dreams. He studied at a French fashion school, and when he was ready to release his collection and had everything planned out, his mother, unfortunately, passed away which led him to stop all he was doing, in a state of devastation, that led him to struggle to get back on his feet.

“My brand would be named after my mother’s maiden name, Jacquemus, and designed for the girl my mother was.” Simon told AnOther Magazine.

A considerable amount of his runways were held in unconventional locations, for example, Jacquemus Spring-summer 2020 (Coup de Soleil) took place in a lavender field in Provence, SS21 ( L’amour) was held in a wheat field an hour away from Paris.

The brand gained an excellent reputation because of its unique and inventive added value to the fashion industry. Jacquemus’ general style as a brand can be described as effortless, minimalistic, Mediterranean, laid back, vivid, and wearable. A lot of Simon's designs and creativity are inspired by his early life in the countryside, by his grandmother’s house, and by her clothes.

SS20 Coup De Soleil, SS21 L’amour , FW22 La Montagne collections.

Simon is known to use a lot of illusions in his designs called “trompe l’oeil”, a painting style that has been persistent since as far back as the 17th century in the Baroque art era.

His obsession with the style can be detected throughout the multiple collections he designed. Designs such as bras that resembled pillows, dresses that looked like sleeping bags, heels with a cube shape, sandals that looked like his grandmother’s medical shoes, embroidery, and overall designs that were made from fabric that was intended to be drapes, napes, and household items, and so on…

Simon’s vision is pretty much versatile, one collection can have elements like high fashion pieces, to wearable everyday pieces. His creative vision and message are: making efforts to look smooth, something like “I rolled out of bed like this”.

One of Jacquemus’ staples is their iconic bags, they gained an extravagant amount of popularity amongst celebrities, public figures, and influencers. These same bags are always almost rebranded in every collection, which makes them constantly appealing to the general public.

We can always expect more innovation and creativity inspired by the french laid-back lifestyle that Jacquemus is all about. You can watch all the shows and promotional videos on the official Jacquemus Youtube channel.

Their online website is always open to learn more about the brand and to also shop. https://www.jacquemus.com/fr

And on a last note, Simon’s full name can translate to English to mean Simon WEARS Jacquemus, we can all wear it… Shams Porte Jacquemus, “Your name” Porte Jacquemus, that’s how personal we can all get to the brand.
